This past week I had the opportunity to visit Chicago to promote my new business and take in some continuing education classes at the McCormick Place Convention Center. Several thousand optometrists traveled from around the country to reconnect with old friends and see the sights of the Windy City. Unfortunately, the nickname held up to its name (sort of). The weather did not cooperate most of the week as rain and thunderstorms kept the majority of attendees inside.
The poor weather certainly affected my plans for sightseeing, but I was able to still have a little fun while promoting my new company. I had a great time catching up with old friends at dinners and meetings. The highlight of the trip though came about as an offhanded comment to my coworker, Angie Gentry, at the airport when I suggested, “Maybe, we can catch a Bull’s game while we’re here.” Within minutes we had tickets to the Bulls-Raptors game at the United Center on Friday night! Here’s the kicker…they were front row seats! I’ve been a huge basketball fan my entire life and have been to several NBA games as a kid, but it was utterly amazing to see these first-class athletes up close and personal. Its astonishing how effortless they make the game look.
It took me the entire week, but I finally finished off the trip with a visit to the famous Giordano’s Pizza. I’ve always loved deep dish pizza and could not pass up the opportunity to have some of the finest in the world.
